A sudanese pupil joins the Basic Education stage in
the age of six and leaves it at the age of fourteen . During this
stage the pupil is in a state of a continuous physical , mental and
psychological growth This growth has been considered in the
Basic Education stage where the periods of this growth have been
divided into three cycles . The curriculum has been tailored into
core subjects rather than separate subjects . Taking these cycles
on board determines a reasonable preparation of teacher which
should coverall teacher preparation colleges and programs in
order to have one system of qualification . In order to design a
unified Curriculum for qualifying these teachers , two attempts
has been made in 1992 and 1998 . In these attempts , the
components have included the activities , the educational
preparation, the academic courses and the specialization
disciplines .The difference between the operating components in
these two attempts did not exceed 10% . In the present study a
different approach was adopted in order to specify the qualifying
curricula . This was achieved by finding the weights of different
core subjects per week in each form , cycle or the hole stage. This
method has shown for instance that the weight of the arabic
language and the religious education components in the entire
Basic Education Stage is 48.7% This simply means that half of
any teaching staff in in a school must be specialized in these two
components . In designing the teacher preparation curriculum in
the OUS , the weights of the components have – undoubtedly –
been taken into account . Building on this point , it has been
decided that all the basic Education teachers should be qualified
in order to teach all the components of the first and the second
cycles ( six years ) . This means that during these six years , the
school would not be affected by the presence or the absence of
the specialized teachers. Each teacher should also pass the
teaching practice of each of the three cycles , which will give
room to qualifying the classroom teacher in the first
cycles.Broadly speaking then , the teaching preparating program
in OUS does not differ very much from the former attempts in
terms of the weights of the qualifying components . However it is
putting more emphasis on teaching practice , and slightly more
geared towards qualifying ateacher more suitable for teaching in
a school in this information age .
