There are different ways and points of view to study travelogues; the
symbolic interactionism theory seems to be an appropriate one. This
theory depicts interactions between the author, his text and the society he
lives, so, it displays an active character through the author in the process
of writing. Thus, the text leaves its descriptive and inactive position to
become active, flowing constantly between the author, reader and the
language, as the main means of communication between the author and
the reader .
In this article, we try to focus on the mechanism of the above mentioned
theory throughout the “Iranian Papers” by Claude Annet. By this theory,
we try to reveal how the writer constructs meanings and symbols
through the actions and reactions he has whit the text, himself and the
others to create a work that is considered not merely a simple travelogue
only containing the facts and realities of that time, but to develop a
living work enjoying a literary aspect as well.
