Japan is a country with an ancient and rich history. This historical country has gone through many difficult and smooth days. Japan was among the damaged countries during WWI and WWII. “In This Corner of the World” animation made in 2016 based on a manga –a visual novel or comic- is concerned with WWII and the "Hiroshima" incident. At the time, Japan was a grand empire that got involved in a war with China as a result of WWII.
The present study seeks to analyze “Suzu”, the leading character in this animation, based on Jung’s "individuation process" perspective. Through the individuation process, Jung encourages individuals to go through stages that would eventually lead them to growth and maturity. Hence, the present study aims to illustrate Suzu’s path of growth to reach the truth of life and her own truth based on the process proposed by Jung. The main question in the present article is how the individuation process can be applied to animation. The present study has been carried out based on the descriptive-analytical research method and takes advantage of desk data. Ultimately, the results indicated that the “In This Corner of the World” animation conforms to Jung’s "individuation process" theory and reflects the stages mentioned by Jung including the wise old man, mask, shadow, anima, and animus.
